SNOW SKIING

Snowing Skiing Injuries it happens. Alpine snow sports are increasing popular with an estimated 300 million skiers and snowboarders in the world. The USA has just over 57 million ski and snowboard visits with an estimated $7 billion dollars that is spent annually on the ski and snowboarding sport.

Alpine sports are so much fun and contrary to popular belief they do not pose a big threat to injuries. There are two concerns though that are quite common and they are:

  • Muscle soreness
  • Injury

The good news with these is that they are connected and largely preventable with pre-season exercise and care.

Muscle Soreness usually occurs within a day or two of your ski outing. Since your muscles require strength and flexibility to keep you on your skis or snowboard for hours of participating in the sport. If you are not physically fit you can develop Delayed Onset muscles Soreness which gives you less of muscle control and can then lead to injury especially later in the week when you are sore and the muscles have become fatigued.
Injury can happen anywhere on the body since the chance of fall is high in less experienced skiers or snowboarders, but the most common area for injury is in the knee. Knee injuries are most commonly in the ligaments. The most frequent of these is an ACL injury.
British Sports Therapy can help you prevent muscle injuries as well as helping you recover quickly from injuries.  This can include but not limited to Soft Tissue Release, Myofascial techniques, stretching, cross fiber friction, and Trigger Point Therapy.
