FOOTBALL

Football is enjoyed by athletes of all ages. It was originated out of English sports such as rugby and soccer. It became popular in America in the late 1800s. In 1920 the American Professional Football Association was formed. Two years later it changed the name to the National Football League (NFL). This then ultimately become the major league of American football.

Whether played professionally, semi-professionally or casually, football presents many injuries due to the extreme contact of the sport.  It incorporates explosive movements that causes strain on the joints and muscles.

Young athletes are more likely to occur fractures and sprains because the ligament and tendons are still forming and are considered growth plates. They are weaker until they become fully mature.
The most common muscle injuries occur in the hamstrings and quadriceps strains due to the high intensity interval training. The leg muscles provide a burst of speed during the exercise session. Injury occurs when the muscles are not properly warmed up.

The most common joint injuries are in the shoulder, knee and ankle. These are commonly due to tackles or in older athletes where there is a degeneration of cartilage. These are commonly ACL injuries or meniscus injuries.

British Sports Therapy can help you prevent muscle injuries as well as helping you recover more quickly from injuries.  This can include but not limited to Soft Tissue Release, Myofascial techniques, stretching, cross fiber friction, and Trigger Point Therapy. After a thorough assessment of the athletes’ body mechanics, a treatment planned will be created to help you achieve your optimum performance.
