ROCK CLIMBING

Roughly 9 million people go rock climbing every year. It is estimated that roughly 2,237 injuries are reported annually. It was once regarded as an extreme sport and reserved for adrenaline enthusiasts but has found its way into the indoors. Where it can be enjoyed from the beginner to the professional rock climber. The injuries can be the same for both environments. Rock climbing injuries can occur due to falls or overuse of the muscles and joints. Fall Injuries are often traumatic/acute injuries which include lacerations, fractures, sprains and strains that often occur in the extremities. Overuse injuries most commonly occur in the shoulders, elbows, fingers and toes. Muscle fatigue is common during the end of the climb.  Overuse injuries should not be left untreated and if go ignored, they may cause long term or permanent damage.

Foot and ankle injuries are the most common injury and are most likely to involve fractures, sprains, strains.  These types of injuries often occur when the climber misses a climbing hold and they fall feet first.
