GOLF

Even though golf injuries relatively have a low incidence, studies have shown that 60% of professionals and 40% of amateurs can experience injury at any time. Roughly 80% are typically overuse injuries and can become chronic conditions. The remainder are acute/traumatic  such as impact injuries due to the club hitting a hard surface

A common ailment that affects about 1/3 of professional golfers is lower back pain. This is cause by the golfer in a mildly bent position and twisting action to hit the ball. If your back muscles are weak or injured as well as a lack of control this can cause chronic problems,

The second most common injury that golfers can experience is to the elbow. Golfer’s elbow and Tennis elbow are two of the most common injuries. These types of injuries are often due to the excessive gripping of the club and poor swing biomechanics.

Other injuries than can occur are:

  • Shoulder injuries such as rotator cuff, shoulder impingement and shoulder arthritis
  • Knee injuries such as a meniscus tear or even knee arthritis due to walking long distances
  • Foot pain can occur as well with walking long distance with plantar fasciitis or heel spurs

Professional golfers are found to have more wrist injuries while amateurs have more shoulder and elbow injuries
