FOOT

Pain in your foot can originate from muscles, ligaments, joints and bones. This kind of pain and be generated from systemic diseases or your lower back

Plantar fasciitis, bunion, heel pain, heel spur and ankle injuries are   typical sources of foot pain.

Foot pain can have many causes. It is important to go to your doctor to have an accurate assessment of the foot pain before scheduling with one of our sport therapists. Once the origination of the pain has been determined out sport therapists will be able to provide you with a treatment plan to reduce your pain and get you back to your active lifestyle.

Plantar Fasciitis

A common source of foot pain is Plantar  fasciitis.

There is a thick fibrous band of connective tissue that runs from the heel bone along the bottom of the foot towards the toes.  This is called plantar fascia.

The plantar fascia helps to protect the arch of your foot and keep it from flattening. The condition of plantar fasciitis develops when micro tears become inflamed.

This injury is usually common with athletes that are involved in running or impact sports. This is also common in people who have a week foot arch or flat feet.

This injury or condition appears for no apparent reason. There are two reasons this occurs. Either compression or traction injuries.

The main reason for this condition is over stretching of the plantar fasciitis. An elongated arch or weakness of the arch is the main cause for this injury.

Bruising the plantar fascia causing trauma is the main reason for this type of injury. Most times a sharp object is the main trauma to the area.

Bunion

Deformity of the big toe is called a bunion. A toe that points at an angle at t is due to a bunion if on the inner side of the foot is a bump. The bunion may get bigger and pain begins to develop.

Complex changes that occur in your feet can result in bunions.

One of the factors that cause bunions is improper footwear. 30% of the Western population and 3% of the Eastern population suffer from bunions. The type of footwear that you wear does cause bunions.  They are seen mostly in women and as people get older this becomes more common.

Shoes that are tight-fitting may be the main cause. High heels and shoes which have tight toes are particularly damaging to the toes. This includes shoes that have a narrow toe box and a sloping foot bed. This squeezes the toes together and they become angled.

When wearing footwear that constrains your foot the toes adapt to the new angle and this will lead to a bunion.

Some other causes of bunions can be injuries, or bad foot arches may lead to flat feet which makes you susceptible to foot bunions. Likeliness of developing bunions is also dependent upon family history.

Definition:

Your foot is an intricate network of bones, ligaments, tendons and muscles. Strong enough to bear your body weight, your foot can be prone to injury and pain.

Foot pain can affect any part of your foot, from your toes to your Achilles tendon at the back of your heel.

Although mild foot pain often responds well to home treatments, it can take time to resolve.
