BOXING

Boxing is considered a high impact/combat sport and with such a sport comes the risk of many severe injuries, some of these are acute/traumatic and some can become chronic. Boxing injuries can occur to various parts of the body but research has shown that improving boxing techniques and wearing proper fitting equipment can result in less frequent injuries.
The most alarming injuries are to the head and brain due to the punch impact that shakes the brain within the skull and causes the brain to react abnormally for a brief period of time. The results of this lead to a concussion.  Some other impact injuries are to the jaw, nose, facial, fingers and thumb fractures. All these types of injuries are traumatic and require immediate medical attention.
Secondary injuries can result from these initial injuries. They can successfully be treated with British Sports Therapy. Some of these are TMJ dysfunction from the impact to the face area, Rotator cuff injuries from repetition of impact, Joint sprains in the wrists from the impact of the sport as well as neck and back injuries, due to the impact or overstraining.

British Sports Therapy can help you prevent muscle injuries as well as helping you recover more quickly from injuries.  This can include but not limited to Soft Tissue Release, Myofascial techniques, stretching, cross fiber friction, and Trigger Point Therapy. After a thorough assessment of the athletes’ body mechanics, a treatment planned will be created to help you achieve your optimum performance.
