PRE-EVENT MASSAGE IS A MUST

For Olympic Sport Therapy it is very common to see sports massage therapists at events ranging from 5K fun runs to the Olympic games.
Sports massage can aid the athlete’s recovery from activity and performance through therapeutic massage and stretching. In relation to a competition, there are different types of sports massage depending on when the massage is given:
    • Pre-Event (20-30 minutes before competition)
    • Inter-Event (on the same day, between competitions )
    • Post-Event (Immediately after competition)
    • Therapeutic/Maintenance (during the training program)
Whenever an athlete is preparing for an intense activity this is the time to schedule a pre-event sports massage 20-30 minutes prior to the event or competition. Our job at Olympic Sports Therapy is to prepare the athletes muscles loosened up without decreasing their focus or overworking the muscles too much. We are not looking to correct or reduce stress.

At Olympic Sport Therapy we know there are psychological benefits as well as physiological benefits to the athlete.
The athlete feels any muscle issues will be relieved to compete at an ultimate level. The athlete may believe they have an edge up on the competition by getting pre event sport massage.
Some athletes make massage part of their pre-event routine. Sports therapy helps them to focus on the competition or event.
At Olympic Sport Therapy we build a relationship with an athlete. We stay consistent with their pre event ritual.
During a pre event massage the therapist will make notes of any issue he may find to work on later after the event or during the ongoing treatment plan.
    Pre-Event Massage, when to schedule.
Our sport therapists perform pre event massage 1-2 hours before the event or competition. The duration of the sport massage will be 10-20 minutes long.

The techniques I utilize in my pre-event massage are: compression/broadening, effleurage, trigger point therapy, soft tissue release, petrissage (kneading), vibration, and tapotement (percussion).
    Inter-Event Massage
Olympic Sport Therapy will be available for inter-event massage. This is performed between multiple competitions in the same day. Inter-event massage has been proven to recover muscle between strenuous exercise.
Inter-event sports massage focuses on the stressed muscles used during the previous competition.

Champions are not the ones who always win races – champions are the ones who get out there and try. And try harder the next time. And even harder the next time. ‘Champion’ is a state of mind. They are devoted. They compete to best themselves as much if not more than they compete to best others. Champions are not just athletes. Simon Sinek
